Excavation Safety and Shoring

  •  October 11, 2017
     11:15 am - 1:00 pm

Speaker: Justin Johnsen, Manager, Trench Shoring Services, Inc

Excavating is recognized as one of the most hazardous construction operations. Cave-ins pose the greatest risk and are much more likely than other excavation related accidents to result in worker fatalities. Other potential hazards include falls, falling loads, hazardous atmospheres, and incidents involving mobile equipment. Collapsing trenches cause dozens of fatalities and hundreds of injuries each year. OSHA defines an excavation as any man-made cut, cavity, trench, or depression in the earth’s surface formed by earth removal.

The speaker will address competent person and general requirements, protective systems, soil classifications, acceptable sloping, shoring & shields, safety, and compliance.
